As the world is wondering about AI’s impact in general and whether AI will eventually take over software development, it’s important to ground these discussions in the practical realities of today’s workplace. The notion that AI might render human roles in technology redundant is, upon closer examination, less about replacement and more about augmentation – also in the field of Requirements Engineering (RE). This talk seeks to offer a balanced perspective on how AI tools and techniques can be used to enhance human efforts across all stages of RE: elicitation, documentation, validation, and management of requirements. The talk will present a selection of use cases “from the wild” that demonstrate the tangible benefits of incorporating AI into RE processes. Additionally, there will be short live demonstrations of AI in action within the context of RE. By exploring the intersection of AI and Requirements Engineering through a lens of practical application, this talk will move beyond the hype to a more nuanced understanding of how AI is truly shaping our work and the opportunities it presents for innovation in RE.
